Evaluating Options

Di akhir lesson ini, kamu bisa:

  • Menyajikan pilihan solusi dengan 'One option would be to...'.
  • Menimbang kelebihan dan kekurangan memakai bahasa trade-off.
  • Menyimpulkan secara seimbang dengan 'On balance...'.

Penjelasan (ID)

Setelah masalah jelas, kita biasanya punya beberapa pilihan solusi. Tugas Anda adalah menyajikan tiap pilihan secara adil, menimbang trade-off-nya, lalu memberi rekomendasi seimbang: bukan sekadar menjual satu opsi.

1. Menyajikan pilihan (gunakan would agar terdengar sopan dan terbuka):

FrasaFungsi
One option would be to + verbmenawarkan pilihan A
An alternative would be to...menawarkan pilihan B
We could either... or...menyandingkan dua pilihan

2. Menyebut kelebihan & kekurangan:

PositifNegatif
The advantage of this approach is...The drawback is...
The upside is...The downside is...
It would let us...The risk is that...

3. Bahasa trade-off: inti dari evaluasi dewasa: hampir setiap pilihan menukar satu hal demi hal lain.

  • It's faster, but at the cost of higher spend. (lebih cepat, tapi dengan biaya lebih besar)
  • We'd gain control in exchange for a longer timeline. (dapat kendali, ditukar waktu lebih lama)
  • There's a trade-off between flexibility and price.

4. Membandingkan & menyimpulkan:

  • Whereas Option A is cheap, Option B scales better. (kontras formal)
  • On the other hand, hiring takes time. (sisi lain)
  • On balance, I'd lean towards Option B. (kesimpulan seimbang)

Tip: Hindari memuji satu opsi tanpa menyebut kekurangannya. Menyebut drawback secara jujur justru membuat rekomendasi Anda lebih dipercaya di rapat.

Examples (English)

"One option would be to outsource production; an alternative would be to build the line in-house." "The advantage of this approach is speed, but the drawback is the upfront cost." "It's a clear trade-off: we get full control in exchange for a longer timeline." "On balance, the in-house option looks more viable for the long term."

Dialogue

Choosing how to scale a support team

Dimas

We have two ways to handle the rising ticket volume. One option would be to hire three more agents.

Nadia

The advantage of that is full control over quality. The drawback is the fixed cost.

Dimas

An alternative would be to outsource the night shift. It's cheaper, but at the cost of consistency.

Nadia

So it's really a trade-off between cost and control.

Dimas

Exactly. On balance, I'd lean towards hiring: quality matters more to us right now.
