Countable & Uncountable Nouns
Di akhir lesson ini, kamu bisa:
- Membedakan kata benda yang bisa dihitung (countable) dan yang tidak (uncountable).
- Memakai a/an dengan countable singular, dan tanpa artikel dengan uncountable.
- Menyebut jumlah uncountable dengan pola 'a piece of', 'a cup of', 'a bottle of'.
Bentuk & Aturan
Kata benda dalam bahasa Inggris terbagi dua:
- Countable (bisa dihitung): benda yang bisa kita hitung satu per satu. Punya bentuk tunggal dan jamak: one report, two reports. Bisa dipakai dengan a / an.
- Uncountable (tidak bisa dihitung): sesuatu yang kita anggap sebagai satu kesatuan/massa, bukan satuan terpisah: information, advice, money, water. Tidak punya bentuk jamak dan tidak pakai a / an.

Kata yang sering uncountable padahal dalam bahasa Indonesia terasa bisa dihitung: information, advice, money, work, news, furniture, luggage, equipment, traffic.
Menghitung Uncountable: "a piece of / a cup of"
Karena uncountable tidak bisa dipakai dengan angka langsung (two informations), kita memakai kata wadah/satuan + of:

Untuk jamaknya: two pieces of advice, three cups of coffee (yang ditambah -s adalah wadahnya, bukan uncountable-nya).
Kapan Dipakai
- Pakai a / an untuk satu benda countable yang umum (belum spesifik).
I sent an email and attached a report.
- Jangan pakai a / an dengan uncountable: langsung sebut kata bendanya.
She gave me advice. (bukan
an advice) - Pakai "a piece of" dsb. saat ingin menyebut satu satuan dari uncountable.
Let me give you a piece of advice.
- Beberapa kata bisa dua-duanya dengan arti beda: a coffee (= secangkir kopi) vs coffee (kopi secara umum).

Kesalahan Umum
- ❌ "She gave me an advice." → ✅ "She gave me a piece of advice." (advice uncountable, tidak pakai a/an)
- ❌ "I have many informations." → ✅ "I have a lot of information." (information tidak punya bentuk jamak)
- ❌ "We need two furnitures." → ✅ "We need two pieces of furniture." (furniture uncountable)
- ❌ "He has a work to do." → ✅ "He has work to do." / "He has a job to do." (work uncountable; job countable)
