Going to & Will

Penjelasan (ID)

Bahasa Inggris punya beberapa cara untuk membicarakan masa depan. Dua yang paling sering di tempat kerja adalah be going to dan will. Pilihannya bergantung pada konteks, bukan selera.

Bentuk dasar:

  • be going to: am/is/are + going to + verbWe are going to sign the contract.
  • will: will + verb (tanpa to) → I will send it. (sering disingkat I'll send it.)

Kapan pakai be going to?

FungsiPenjelasanContoh
Rencana / niatSudah diputuskan sebelum bicaraWe're going to hire two new staff.
Prediksi dari buktiAda tanda/data yang terlihat sekarangLook at these numbers: we're going to miss the target.

Kapan pakai will?

FungsiPenjelasanContoh
Keputusan spontanDiputuskan saat itu jugaThe phone's ringing: I'll get it.
Tawaran / janjiMenawarkan bantuan, berjanjiI'll help you finish the deck.
Prediksi umumOpini tanpa bukti khusus (pakai think, probably)I think the meeting will go well.

Kunci kontras: Rencana yang sudah ada → going to. Keputusan yang baru muncul sekarangwill. Bandingkan: "We're going to discuss the budget tomorrow" (sudah dijadwalkan) vs "OK, I'll discuss it with finance" (baru diputuskan barusan).

Examples (English)

"We are going to restructure the team next quarter: it's already approved." "Sales dropped again this week. At this rate, we're going to lose the client." "Don't worry about the minutes: I'll write them up for you." "I think customers will like the new design, but let's wait for feedback."

So, what's the plan for the new feature?

Andi

We're going to release it in August. The roadmap is already set.

Manager

Good. But marketing hasn't seen the brief yet.

Andi

Oh, right: I'll send it to them this afternoon.

Manager

Thanks. Do you think it will be ready in time?

Andi

Honestly, with the current backlog, we're going to need one more week.
