Present Simple vs Present Continuous
Di akhir lesson ini, kamu bisa:
- Memilih Present Simple untuk kebiasaan/fakta dan Present Continuous untuk aksi yang sedang berlangsung.
- Mengenali kata kerja stative yang biasanya tidak dipakai dalam bentuk continuous.
- Membedakan makna 'I work' dan 'I'm working' pada kalimat yang sama.
🔁 Ingat lagi: dari Modul 4: penanda usually / always / every day (kebiasaan) dan dari Modul 3: manager, team, colleague (rekan/atasan). Penanda waktu inilah kunci memilih tense: usually/every day → Simple, now/this week → Continuous. Daur ulang juga What do you do? dari konteks pekerjaan untuk menanyakan profesi.
Inti Perbedaan
Keduanya sama-sama tentang masa kini, tetapi sudut pandangnya berbeda. Present Simple untuk hal yang permanen, rutin, atau selalu benar. Present Continuous untuk hal yang sedang terjadi sekarang atau bersifat sementara.

Kapan Pakai Present Simple
- Kebiasaan & rutinitas:
I start work at nine every morning.
- Fakta umum / kebenaran:
Water boils at 100 degrees.
- Jadwal tetap (transportasi, acara):
The train leaves at 7:15.
- Keadaan permanen:
She lives in Jakarta.
Kapan Pakai Present Continuous
- Sedang berlangsung saat berbicara:
Please be quiet, I am taking a call right now.
- Situasi sementara (belum permanen):
He is staying with his parents this month.
- Tren / perubahan yang sedang berjalan:
More people are working remotely these days.
- Rencana yang sudah pasti di masa dekat:
We are meeting the client tomorrow at ten.
Stative Verbs
Beberapa kata kerja menyatakan keadaan, bukan aksi: know, understand, want, need, like, love, hate, believe, belong, own, seem. Kata-kata ini biasanya tetap Present Simple
meski maknanya "sekarang".

I am understanding the problem.✅ She wants to leave early.: ❌She is wanting to leave early.
💡 Edge-case: beberapa kata kerja bisa jadi stative ATAU aksi tergantung makna. have (memiliki) stative → I have two laptops; tapi have (mengalami/melakukan) aksi → I*'m having** lunch* / We*'re having** a meeting*. Sama dengan think: I think it's good (pendapat, Simple) vs I*'m thinking** about it* (proses, Continuous).
Examples (English)
She manages the team, but right now she is presenting to a client. I usually take the bus, but today I am driving because of the rain. Do you work here?: Yes, but this week I am training at another branch. He doesn't drink coffee, yet he is drinking tea at the moment. We send a report every Friday; right now we are finishing this week's one. The system runs automatically, but our team is updating it today.
Bandingkan Langsung
Kalimat yang sama, dua tense, dua makna:
"I work in Surabaya." → pekerjaan/tempat tinggal permanen. "I am working in Surabaya." → kebetulan di sana untuk sementara (mis. proyek).
"He doesn't drink coffee." → tidak pernah, sebagai kebiasaan. "He isn't drinking coffee." → saat ini tidak (mungkin biasanya minum).
"What do you do?" → menanyakan pekerjaan/profesi. "What are you doing?" → menanyakan kegiatan saat ini.

Kesalahan Umum
- ❌ "I am wanting a new laptop." → ✅ "I want a new laptop." (want = stative, pakai Present Simple)
- ❌ "She works right now." → ✅ "She is working right now." (aksi saat ini = Present Continuous)
- ❌ "We are meeting every Monday." → ✅ "We meet every Monday." (rutinitas = Present Simple)
- ❌ "Do you cook dinner now?" → ✅ "Are you cooking dinner now?" (sekarang = Present Continuous)
