Asking for Help
Di akhir lesson ini, kamu bisa:
- Meminta bantuan dengan 'Could you help me with...?' dan 'I need help with...'.
- Meminta penjelasan cara dengan 'Can you show me how to...?'.
- Merespons saat seseorang meminta bantuan, baik bisa maupun tidak bisa.
π Ingat lagi: dari Modul 4: "report" (laporan) dan "task" (tugas); dari Modul 5 - "printer" (printer). Inilah hal-hal yang paling sering bikin kita buntu di kantor, jadi pakai lagi kata-kata ini saat berlatih meminta bantuan.
Penjelasan (ID)
Tidak apa-apa meminta bantuan di tempat kerja. Yang penting, caranya sopan dan jelas. Ada tiga pola yang sangat berguna:

Perhatikan:
- Setelah help me with dan need help with, gunakan kata benda (the report, this form, the printer).
- Setelah show me how to, gunakan kata kerja dasar (send, open, use, fix).
- Untuk membuka percakapan, kamu bisa berkata "I'm stuck" (saya buntu) atau "I have a question."
Catatan register (formal vs santai):
- "I need help with..." adalah pernyataan langsung. Cocok untuk rekan dekat, tapi untuk atasan atau klien lebih halus diawali pertanyaan: "Could you help me with...?" atau "Would you be able to help me with...?"
- "Can you show me how to...?" terdengar santai dan ramah; "Could you show me how to...?" sedikit lebih sopan. Keduanya umum di kantor.
- Hindari kalimat yang terdengar menuntut seperti "Help me now." Selalu bingkai sebagai pertanyaan dan, bila perlu, tambahkan please.
Cara merespons saat seseorang meminta bantuanmu:
- Bisa membantu: "Sure, no problem." / "Of course, let me show you."
- Perlu waktu: "Let me check and get back to you."
- Tidak bisa sekarang: "Sorry, I'm busy right now. Can it wait?"
Edge-case yang sering muncul di kantor:
- Menolak sama sekali tanpa alternatif terdengar dingin. Lebih baik tawarkan jalan keluar: "Sorry, I'm busy right now, can it wait until after lunch?" atau "I'm not sure, but Tom knows how to fix the printer."
- Setelah kamu dibantu, jangan hanya berkata "Thanks". Kalimat "Thank you, I really appreciate it." terdengar jauh lebih hangat dan profesional, terutama di email.

Kesalahan Umum

- β "Can you show me how to sending the file?" β β "Can you show me how to send the file?" (setelah how to pakai verb dasar, bukan -ing)
- β "I need help for the printer." β β "I need help with the printer." (need help with, bukan for; interferensi "butuh bantuan untuk")
