Present Simple for Routines
Di akhir lesson ini, kamu bisa:
- Menyusun kalimat present simple untuk menggambarkan rutinitas kerja.
- Menambahkan -s/-es pada kata kerja untuk subjek he/she/it.
- Membuat kalimat negatif dengan don't dan doesn't.
π Ingat lagi: dari Modul 2: "What time is it?"
Bentuk dasarnya sangat sederhana:
| Subjek | Kata kerja | Contoh |
|---|---|---|
| I / You / We / They | bentuk dasar | I start work at 9. |
| He / She / It | + -s / -es | She starts work at 9. |
Untuk subjek he, she, it (orang ketiga tunggal), tambahkan -s pada kata kerja:
- work β works, start β starts
- Tambahkan -es jika kata kerja berakhiran -ch, -sh, -ss, -x, -o: check β checks, finish β finishes, go β goes.
- Jika kata kerja berakhiran konsonan + y, ubah -y menjadi -ies: reply β replies, study β studies. Tetapi jika sebelum -y ada huruf vokal, cukup tambah -s: stay β stays.
- Tiga kata kerja tidak beraturan yang sering muncul di kantor: have β has, do β does, go β goes.
π‘ Tip: Hanya he/she/it yang memakai -s. Untuk I, you, we, they kata kerjanya tetap bentuk dasar.
Catatan register (formal vs santai)
Present simple terdengar netral: cocok untuk email kerja, perkenalan, maupun obrolan santai. Yang berubah biasanya kata sekitarnya, bukan grammar-nya:
- Santai: "I grab a coffee, then I start."
- Lebih formal (mis. ke atasan): "I begin the day by reviewing my emails."
Dalam email kerja, present simple sering dipakai untuk menyatakan kebijakan atau fakta tetap: "Our office closes at 5 p.m.", "The team meets every Monday."
π‘ Tip: Untuk subjek gabungan seperti "My colleague and I", perlakukan sebagai we (jamak) β tanpa -s: "My colleague and I work in the same team."
Kalimat negatif
Gunakan don't (do not) dan doesn't (does not) + kata kerja bentuk dasar:
| Subjek | Negatif | Contoh |
|---|---|---|
| I / You / We / They | don't + verb | I don't work on Sundays. |
| He / She / It | doesn't + verb | He doesn't check emails at night. |
Hati-hati: Setelah doesn't, kata kerja tidak memakai -s lagi. β She doesn't start. β She doesn't starts.
Examples (English)
"I start work at 9 a.m. and finish at 5 p.m."
"She checks emails every morning before the team meeting."
"We don't work on weekends, so the office closes on Friday evening."
"He doesn't reply to messages after 6 p.m."
"My colleague works from home, and we have a video call at half past nine." (daur ulang: colleague, half past)
"What time do you finish on Fridays?": "I usually leave at four."

Dialogue
Talking about a daily routine
What time do you start work?
I start at 9 and check my emails first.
Does your colleague work from the office?
No, she doesn't. She works from home and joins online meetings.
I see. We finish at 5, right?
Yes, we don't work after 5.
Kesalahan Umum
- β "She check emails every morning." β β "She checks emails every morning." (untuk he/she/it wajib tambah -s; Bahasa Indonesia tak punya perubahan ini, jadi mudah lupa)
- β "He doesn't checks his email." β β "He doesn't check his email." (setelah doesn't, kata kerja kembali ke bentuk dasar: tanpa -s)
- β "I am work at nine." β β "I work at nine." (jangan campur am/is/are dengan kata kerja biasa; "saya bekerja" β "I am work")
- β "My colleague and I works together." β β "My colleague and I work together." (dua subjek = jamak seperti we β tanpa -s)
